These days, it’s safer to host events outdoors instead of indoors. If you’ve rented a tent for your outdoor event and a snowstorm occurs, it doesn’t mean you have to cancel your event. You can remove the snow and let the fun continue. Here’s how you can safely remove snow from your tent:
Heat the Tent
Since it is the winter, chances are you have outdoor heaters for your tent. Use the heaters to warm the tent to 70 degrees during any snowfall. That will make certain that the tent will immediately melt any snow that comes in contact with it. It’s the easiest and fastest way to ensure that snow is cleared away from your tent in time for your event. Additionally, be sure that your outdoor heaters have at least 50% of its fuel so that it doesn’t go empty in the middle of the snowstorm or throughout your event,
Use a Snow Broom
Manually removing snow from your tent is the next best option. It’s time-consuming, but it can save you money. Throughout the snowstorm, have someone clear snow away from your tent using a soft tool, like a snow broom or snow rake. These tools are safe to use on tents since they aren’t sharp, and therefore won’t puncture the tent. Simply push or pull the snow away from the tent until you can see the fabric.
Use a Shovel
If you don’t have outdoor heaters or a snow broom, you can use a shovel to clear snow away from the tent. Using a plastic shovel, carefully remove the snow away from the tent. Avoid using metal shovels as these can scrape and damage the tent. Additionally, never hit the tent in hopes of loosening up snow. Instead, carefully push and pull away from the tent periodically throughout the storm.
Don’t Use Ice Melts
It may be tempting to throw ice melt on the top and around the tent but refrain from doing this. Ice melts contain chemicals that are harmful to the material of the tent. If there are ice and snow on top of your tent and you cannot reach it, let the ice and snow melt on their own.
